Considering those obligations, we have no other option but to make this announcement which is to be published on our website, and the website of British Weight Lifting, and sent to all members by email. We have been notified about several allegations made in relation to incidents that have alleged to have taken place at Willpower Weightlifting, a gym based at Osborne Road Pontypool, NP4 6LX, and involving members of that gym. Those allegations are of a serious nature and have raised serious safeguarding concerns.

It is important to note that Willpower Weightlifting is not affiliated to Welsh Weightlifting or British Weight Lifting and is an independent gym run as a private business. Welsh Weightlifting and British Weight Lifting is in no way connected with Willpower Weightlifting, and do not provide any funding to the gym.

Notwithstanding the fact that Willpower Weightlifting is not affiliated to us or British Weight Lifting, both organisations have considered, at the most senior level, that it is appropriate and necessary to issue guidance to individuals who are members or train at the gym (or are thinking of doing so), to exercise caution and carry out all necessary due diligence. This guidance is especially aimed at females and young persons.

Please note that Welsh Weightlifting and British Weight Lifting have taken this step because of the safeguarding concerns that have been notified to us. Welsh Weightlifting and British Weight Lifting cannot intervene in the running of a private business and can only provide information for the consideration of those individuals who are either training, or are considering training, at Willpower Weightlifting.

In order to ensure that Welsh Weightlifting and British Weight Lifting is not seen to endorse or support Willpower Weightlifting by implication or otherwise it has also been decided that for the foreseeable future, and until the safeguarding concerns have been alleviated, that any individuals wearing clothing or using equipment with Willpower Weightlifting endorsements, advertisements, logo or any other identifying feature will not be able to take part in any events or competitions organised or overseen by Welsh Weightlifting or British Weight Lifting.
