The sport of Weightlifting, also commonly known as Olympic Weightlifting, involves the Snatch technique and the Clean and Jerk technique. The Snatch involves lifting the bar from the floor, overhead in one swift movement and the Clean and Jerk involves lifting the bar from the floor to the chest, and then from the chest to overhead.
This sport is a combination of speed, power, strength, flexibility, skill and mental toughness. Weightlifters compete in weight categories, and males and females compete separately.
During competition, each lifter has three attempts in both disciplines, the best of each are combined to form a total, and the athlete with the highest total wins the competition.
