Weightlifting Wales has planned a flexible 2021 competition calendar providing opportunities for all levels of lifters and ages to compete in a variety of virtual and physical events. Please note the competition calendar may change due to Covid-19 restrictions.
From January to May the Virtual Welsh Open Series will continue with the same format as the first Welsh virtual event of 2020 and will remain open to members and non-members. Members results will be included in BWL ranking list and valid for qualification purposes. No Welsh records will be recorded from virtual competitions.
2021 will see a new event on the Weightlifting Wales calendar, the Welsh Academy Open Series. These competitions will be hosted by our academies across Wales on set dates and open to all members. The Welsh Academy Open Series will be a BWL recognised Tier 3 event, organised to limit larger gatherings and to allow competitions to be held locally, preventing unnecessary travel . The Welsh Academy Open championships will follow the new competition delivery format until Coronavirus restrictions are eased enough to return to a traditional delivery method.
The results from each Academy will be pooled to create a national set of results. The Welsh Academy Open Series will require a valid Weightlifting Wales membership to enter, entry via Sport80.
Weightlifting Wales intends to return to the traditional competition delivery as soon as possible, with that in mind provisional dates have been set for the Welsh Age Groups, 17th July and the Welsh Seniors, 11th September.
