A huge congratulations to Weightlifting Wales licensed club - Holyhead & Anglesey Weightlifting & Fitness Centre (HAWFC) - as all their fantastic work with their Nifty 60’s programme in recent years has been rewarded, by coming out as winners at the Isle of Anglesey Môn Actif Awards 2025 which took place last Friday (24th October).

Nifty 60’s (ran by HAWFC) is a combined weightlifting and strength training fitness programme targeted for those aged 60+, designed to help this demographic with healthy and active ageing. The benefits seen by participants of the programme have been hugely impactful, with an improvement in physical strength and mobility, as well as improved mental well-being being two key contributors as to why the programme has been a great success. As a result of this success, Nifty 60 sessions have been expanded to multiple different locations on the Isle of Anglesey.

The award received by the Nifty 60’s was in the category of ‘Impact on Health Award’ - which is a category that recognises initiatives that have had a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals. With now over 350 a week participants across Anglesey, the Nifty 60’s programme is continuing to make a real difference in its local community in getting older people active through strength training, justifying the award for ‘Impact on Health’. 

This award is a testament to all the hard work our licensed clubs do just like at HAWFC in having a significant impact in their local communities.

A big thank you to the support of the National Lottery and Anglesey Council for all their funding support to help with the expansion of the Nifty 60’s project. Winning awards such as this through the tremendous delivery of the programme wouldn’t be possible without their help.
