Weightlifting Wales is delighted to congratulate Stephen Donovan on his selection as an International Technical Official for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Selected through the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the Commonwealth Games Federation, Stephen will once again represent Wales on one of the sport's biggest international stages. This will be his third consecutive Commonwealth Games, having previously officiated at both the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Stephen's involvement in weightlifting spans more than four decades. He first made his mark as a competitive lifter during the 1980s and 1990s, representing Wales at a number of international competitions, including the Celtic Nations Championships in Ireland, before progressing into officiating at the highest level.

Today, Stephen is an IWF Category 1 International Technical Official and has represented both Wales and Great Britain at numerous major international events, including Commonwealth Games, IWF World Championships and European Championships. His knowledge and professionalism have earned him the respect of athletes, coaches and fellow officials from across the world.

Closer to home, Stephen is a highly valued volunteer within the Welsh weightlifting community. He plays an important role at Weightlifting Wales competitions throughout the year and is also a committed volunteer with Strength Academy Wales, where he regularly supports local competitions, club events and supports the development of the organisation. His willingness to give back to the sport continues to make a significant contribution to weightlifting in Wales.

Being selected for a third consecutive Commonwealth Games is a tremendous achievement and reflects Stephen's dedication, expertise and commitment to officiating at the highest level.
