Weightlifting Wales has published it's new strategic plan for the next five-year cycle, 2026-2030.
Weightlifting Wales has launched a bold new strategy, setting out a clear direction for the sport across performance, participation, governance and community impact.
The Weightlifting Wales Strategy 2026 - 2030 is the result of extensive consultation with members, staff, board members and key partners. It reflects the organisation’s ambition to grow the sport of weightlifting and para powerlifting while using its values and community programmes to contribute meaningfully to the health and wellbeing of the nation.
Structured around four strategic priorities:
The strategy presents a whole-organisation approach. From club and volunteer development to athlete pathways, performance, events and safeguarding, every part of the organisation has been aligned to deliver against these long-term priorities.
The strategy also marks Weightlifting Wales’ transition to a Community Interest Company (CIC), reinforcing its commitment to delivering social value through sport. The CIC structure will enhance the organisation’s potential to access new funding, form meaningful partnerships, and further its mission of making the sport accessible and inclusive to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Chief Operating Officer, Simon Roach, commented:
“This strategy brings everything together. It recognises the importance of performance and participation, while showing how weightlifting can positively influence health, inclusion and community cohesion. It also gives us a strong foundation to build partnerships, grow the sport sustainably, and ensure that our work benefits people and communities across Wales.”
Chairperson, Jo Calvino, added:
'I am delighted to present Weightlifting Wales's new strategic plan; this has been thorough process with all involved from the board to the staff with a complete review of our previous achievements and how we continue to build and grow a strong nation moving forward from community through to performance.
It is vital to acknowledge the changes in the sporting landscape and through our work create greater impact at every level. The board and staff are excited for the next four years and will continue to support the fantastic work our club and community programmes continue to deliver and the opportunities that lie ahead.'
Key targets outlined in the strategy include:
Weightlifting Wales welcomes the support of partners, funders, clubs and individuals as it embarks on this next chapter.
