Weightlifting Wales Statement on the 2026 Enhanced Games

Weightlifting Wales provides a statement on the recently announced schedule and host city of the Enhanced Games event which is to take place next year.

Weightlifting Wales fully supports the position of the International Federation (IWF), British Weightlifting (BWL), and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) in opposing the proposed 2026 Enhanced Games, which was announced at the end of May and had Weightlifting in its list of sports involved.

The Enhanced Games, which promote the use of performance-enhancing drugs, undermine the values of clean sport and poses significant risks to athlete health and well-being. As a national governing body committed to transparency, fair competition, and athlete safety, we believe that such an event not only threatens the integrity of weightlifting as a sport, but also sends a dangerous message to aspiring athletes and the wider sporting community.

We stand united with IWF, BWL, UKAD, and the global sporting community in upholding anti-doping standards and safeguarding the future of weightlifting. Over recent years, the IWF has taken decisive action to strengthen integrity and clean sport across all levels of weightlifting.

Weightlifting Wales remains dedicated to fostering an environment where sporting excellence, inclusiveness, hard work, and dedication, are celebrated, and where athletes can thrive without compromising their health or integrity. We urge all members of the Weightlifting Wales community to continue supporting clean sport at every level.
