Weightlifting Wales UKAD Annual Report 2025

Weightlifting Wales Anti-Doping Lead, Simon Roach, declares our UK anti-doping (UKAD) Annual Summary of Activities for 2025.

Weightlifting Wales (WW) continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to clean sport and works in partnership with UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and our International Federation (IWF) to ensure that the integrity of our sport is protected. WW enforces a strict zero-tolerance approach to doping and operates a full anti-doping programme. Our education-first approach aims to prevent doping through the promotion of positive values and the spirit of clean sport.

WW adheres to the UK National Anti-Doping Policy, which defines the roles and responsibilities of UKAD, Sports Councils and National Governing Bodies (NGBs). The Assurance Framework remains our guiding structure to demonstrate compliance against the 24 mandatory requirements. Throughout 2025, Weightlifting Wales has maintained compliance with the Assurance Framework, completing the annual submission and continuing to evidence the required standards.

Leadership and Governance

In 2025, Ross Miller was appointed as the Board Anti-Doping Lead, succeeding Nathan Stevens. Ross has completed the required UKAD Board Anti-Doping Lead training and provides a direct link between anti-doping matters and the Board of Directors.

Education and Delivery

Weightlifting Wales continues to follow its Clean Sport Education Strategy and Implementation Plan, ensuring compliance with the Assurance Framework.
A key change in 2025 has been the transition to UKAD-led athlete education. Previously, UKAD-accredited WW staff delivered in-person education workshops; however, WW has now shifted towards pathway athletes completing their Clean Sport workshops directly with UKAD educators.
This approach enhances consistency and ensures centralised data tracking through UKAD, while WW continues to monitor completion and engagement.

In addition:
• Major Games athletes completed Anti-Doping Education and Learning (ADEL) training in collaboration with the International Weightlifting Federation ahead of international competitions, including the Commonwealth Championships.
• WW staff submitted the IWF International Coach Licence scheme with finalised training.
• Pathway coaches have completed the 'Coach Clean' education.
• WW continues to promote education opportunities for clubs, parents and officials through newsletters, social media and the WW website.

Communications and Awareness

WW continues to deliver proactive Clean Sport communications throughout the year to athletes, clubs and members. Activities have included:
• Promotion of Clean Sport Week across digital channels.
• Updates on the WADA Prohibited List and annual summary of changes (via email, social media and website).
• Features such as Global DRO, Informed Sport and TUE guidance.
• Highlighting education pathways for athletes, coaches and ASP via the Clean Sport Hub.

The Anti-Doping page on the WW website (https://weightlifting.wales/anti-doping) continues to provide up-to-date guidance, links to key resources and annual summaries of activity.

Testing and Compliance

The NGB provides calendar of events information, including national events, training camps and squad training dates to UKAD in support of the testing programme.
Weightlifting Wales retains full compliance with the UKAD Assurance Framework and maintains all required evidence to support monitoring and review. The organisation remains proactive in ensuring its policies, agreements, and educational content remain current and consistent with the National Anti-Doping Policy.
